The city has been a major attention center due to numerous articles published about its quality of water. According to The Hindustan Times, a study was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) that comes under the Department of Consumer Affairs.

The study focused on the quality of water supplied to the localities of Lucknow. The water quality of Lucknow failed at almost 6 parameters, which include turbidity, TDS, and hardness. The study was conducted as a part of the central government’s ‘Jal Jeevan mission’, which aims at providing safe and suitable drinking water to every part of India till the end of 2024.

Since the study brought so much attention to the nation about the Quality of water in Lucknow, the General Manager of UP Jal Sans than was interrogated. And to everyone’s surprise, he denied any knowledge regarding the matter. He claimed to have no information about the poor quality of water but reassured the people to take this matter into consideration.

This incident contradicts another when an RTI query was filed to The Jalal Department about the need for RO purifiers in Lucknow. The department straightaway denied, claiming that the water supply is safe or pure to consume. This is a skeptical response if we keep in mind the various complaints from local people about the supply of contaminated water in the city.
